Hearing the Cries of the People

OPV Cries of PeopleOver the past several years, the people of Ohio have experienced tough times, including foreclosures, consumer debt, joblessness and underemployment, gun violence, and childhood poverty.  While we may know statistics of these and other issues our society faces, we also need to hear the stories and the cries of those most affected.  We also need to put faces and their personal stories to the numbers.

Many of these voices are in our neighborhood of Northside.  Ohio Prophetic Voices is working with churches all across Ohio to provide opportunities for people’s stories to be heard.  Over the next two months, North Church and World Outreach Christian Church have joined together to host “Hearing the Cries of the People” listening sessions.  We will be holding a listening session on Saturday, March 22nd and Saturday, April 5th in the auditorium of North Church (4222 Hamilton Ave) from 1-3pm.  Everyone is invited and welcome to come and share your story or the story of a family member/close friend.  Our goal is to engage in conversation to better understand the pain and difficulties behind the statistics, so we can truly hear the real cries of the people. We are not trying to “fix” anyone’s situation, we simply want to listen.  Please contact Joann Ashley at North Church 513-681-1400 ext. 11 if you have any questions or have a story to share but cannot make either of the sessions.
